Go to Sleep, Darlings...
“I wonder if the snow loves the trees and fields
It covers them snug, you know, with a white quilt; and perhaps it says, Go to Sleep, Darlings, till the summer comes again.” Lewis Carroll
For me,there is nothing more peaceful than being alone surrounded by the silence of nature, uninterrupted, with a mind free to wander and think all sorts of things.
Sometimes paintings will have the same effect on me without me ever leaving home for truly I am an introvert at heart. Looking into the watercolour field of this old painting someone long ago had painted instantly brought me back to the place I once lived as a young girl.
I believe I was 16 at the time when my dad was offered 2 teaching jobs, one in Ottawa and one in Bermuda, he chose Ottawa and my life had it's coordinates set . The little cottage in the woods of Wychwood my father discovered in Aylmer, Quebec couldn't have been more delightfully Spooky filled with mystery and strange occurrences of which I will write about in later stories. Wychwood or like my friends and I fondly called it, Witchwood was magical; a secluded spot hidden from the world, forgotten. Sadly, today everybody knows : )
We settled in a tiny white cottage steps away from the Ottawa River and many of the cottages including ours were surrounded by fragrant White Pines, one of my very favourite trees. My years there weren't the happiest, my parents split and the dream house my dad built next to the tiny cottage had to be sold but out of the stormy days there was one very cold night in September 1976, when my friend Diana and I ventured to town to the local pub,The British Hotel which still stands there today. On that chilly night I took a motorcycle ride of my life with a tall skinny fellow from Val D'Or,Quebec, who later became my husband !Thirteen years later to the day of our meeting our son, Ty was born. Back when I lived in Wychwood I may have not been cognizant of it's magic but today I know just how special a place it was and still is .....for me!
There in the hidden corner behind the witch tree, the little black cat with golden eyes sat keeping watch over his beloved witch, B.B. Salem was the witch’s only cat and when Bridget Bishop was taken away , put on trial for practicing witchcraft and hung, the little cat was left alone, naturally becoming the guardian of Bishop House, his only comfort a portrait of his mistress by his side.
A gathering of estate sale finds, Witch Potion Bottles I made, a few crystals from my collection and Sid Dickens Heart Wall plaques are some of the props I used in creating The Alter for Bridget Bishop, the first witch to hang on June 10th/ 1692 in Salem, Massachusetts.
The portrait of the lovely enchantress is an antique find from a Grenville/Leeds antique dealer; I swapped two of my Eaton paintings for it plus twenty dollars.
Bringing her home I always thought of her a witch, a very beautiful witch.

Stargazing at the night sky by a roaring bonfire 🔥 is so, so magical💫Now that Fall has arrived the chilly nights beckon us to the midnight garden, sit by the fire and look up at the stars a little more closer spying the constellations 🌌 in the deep dark sky. Not long ago I posted some of the constellations I noticed with the @skyview app, a really fun application that helps you find the constellations a lot quicker💫
The stars never leave you alone and guide you in your journeys✨never finding yourself lost🌟only I always find myself happily Lost in Space 😉⭐️✨💫🌟

I just discovered a great video on youtube for Hush...Hush, Sweet Charlotte. So many good actors in this movie, Bette Davis, Olivia de Havillande, Joseph Cotton, Agnes Moorehead,Bruce Dern,Victor Buono, Cecil Callaway, the list goes on.
Magnificent Old Hollywood, those were the days of Golden Classics ❣️
I have an affection for animate spiders, especially this black one I made, Charlotte. I named her Charlotte after the spider in Charlotte's Web.
I think she fits in perfectly in this homage to a great horror movie I adore, Hush...Hush, Sweet Charlotte starring Bette Davis and Olivia De Havillande.
Every time I take a glance at the golden hand with Charlotte the spider she takes me back to 1964.
Oh, how I love the past!
If you have seen this great movie then you'll get the significance of the hand 😉
Oh, and look what I found at Sally Ann in Kemptville....
'Bette Davis, Larger Then Life', she certainly was and one of my Very Favourite actors.
I dressed up our Witch for Halloween last October and gave her my vintage Old snuff perfume bottle necklace to keep her secret potion and a beautiful blue Victorian beaded bag to keep her special herbs in but little did know I would soon be giving her a little black kitten , a real one🐱Just a wee bit of a touch up obscuring the messing background since it was a spur of the moment photo; we were so excited and afraid of hurting him we took a real quick pic without any setup. Looks better now, I think.
Far away someone’s ♥️ is broken yet it’s hard to escape their sorrow when today we are all connected in some way through social@media and sometimes maybe even more than you first think. My husband and son work in Saskatchewan not very far from where the Broncos bus accident happened and close to Humboldt. He first heard of the accident late Friday night when a fella from work called him up.
The next morning he told me what had happened and recollected how on his drive to the airport the day before the accident his driver had talked with him about watching the last Broncos game that went into triple time.
It wasn’t until his return back to camp this past Tuesday that he realized just how so many were effected by this tragedy including many at his work.
It’s easy to forget for some and for some they will never forget. Our deepest condolences and prayers to everyone affected by this terrible tragedy.♥️ The Belanger family
