REMEMBER ME

SHOULD THEY BE THE ONLY ONES WHO REMEMBER?

Many died and some returned home with memories; memories they have shared with us since I can recall as a child.

A few months ago I went to the local Aylmer Quebec Legion for a supper with my mom. It was nice to hang out with a few of the folks there and also be contributing to their Legion…the food was excellent!
Before leaving I picked up a free book in their library titled, "Rare Courage". In Rare Courage twenty Canadian Veterans describe their harrowing true tales of war. So far I have read one story of the twenty there are in the book and it promises to be quite a read on what these young men and women did ….for their country.

The one story I did get a chance to read was that of a solider from Toronto.
It initially grabbed my attention because of the soldier's name he shares with my husband and that of my husband's uncle Stan who died in the war and also because I think Cpl. Stanley G. Grizzle, looks a bit like Denzel ; )

The story of CPL.Stanley G. Grizzle, a canadian soldier born in Toronto of Jamaican heritage, not only had the burden of war on his shoulders but also that of discrimination, yes, even in Canada.
It must have been a strange and curious situation for him to be in , to be a part of a Canadian Allie group fighting for freedom in a foreign land and yet be discriminated against by his very own .

He tells how when he married before going off to war he tried to book a room at the Royal York in Toronto but was refused being told they "couldn't accommodate coloured people".
Really if it was me standing at that desk I would have been second thinking about going off to war for a country who treated me in such a humiliating way.
I was glad to see his commanding officer (Sgd) ( R.G.REID) - Lieut-Colonel
had made sure to send forward a letter of complaint to the Royal York.

These days I would like to believe it's not as bad as it once was; Obama is America's President for a second term.

I thank you CPL. Stanley G. Grizzle and all of the young men and women who some sacrificed their youth and others their lives.

Like the author of Rare Courage quotes in his book ….

"THE DEAD , HOWEVER, WERE GONE FOREVER.
WHO KNOWS WHAT THEY MIGHT HAVE BECOME? "

…….THEY LEFT THAT TO US.

I still hear the Balalaika

Doctor Zhivago

in all it's loveliness leaves music of the balalaika lingering in my mind. I just had to create a treasury to show case some of the wonderful Russian art, inspired by Russia or even just in name; all so beautifully captivating.

Looking to Spring

The Ice Palace

 A few quotes from Boris Pasternak's novel…

"You must never, never despair, whatever the circumstances. To hope and to act are our duties in misfortune. To do nothing and to despair is to neglect our duty."

"Never, never, not even in their moments of richest and wildest happiness, had they lost the sense of what is highest and most ravishing - joy in the whole universe, its form, its beauty, the feeling of their own belonging to it, being part of it."

Hope you like this treasury Annabelle ~^..^~

M^..^M HAPPY HALLOWEEN ~^..^~

WHEN WITCHES GO RIDING AND BLACK CATS ARE SEEN, THE MOON LAUGHS AND WHISPERS, 'TIS NEAR HALLOWEEN…………… OH NO,ALMOST FORGOT TO MAKE A POST FOR THIS VERY SPECIAL NIGHT….TENDING TO THE TRICK OR TREATERS BUT ONLY 8 LITTLE TRICK OR TREATERS

~^..^~ HAPPY HALLOWEEN m^..^m

These chairs ( bought at House of Lazarus ) are great for props and sometime in the near future I will refurbish them to their original .

Wolfs howling at the moon …I think M was thinking of her brother who is now working out west when she decided on making the wolfs ( he adores them) …nice work on this ….  m ^. M .^m

This is for you Ty m ^..^ m Happy Halloween

Tim Burton's  Skeleton? and Owl ….two of the pumpkins M did.

From inside our living-room window

And here Grace is kinda spooked by me when I was out in the garden by the window taking pics of the scream ghost

Like I said before I am a terrible photographer , I'm so bad that I make monsters appear…lol
Can you see the two pumpkin eyes, mouth and arm reaching for my witch's broom?

Bought these black candles at House and when I went to blow them out they would shut and light up again, not sure but I believe there are some trick candles like that around? Anyway, they really looked cool when I finally blew them out their smoke lingered in mid air and made the most beautiful delicate ribbon streams of soft grey;  I should have had the camera on hand but I had already put it away.

So early this morning I stepped out to buy some new craving knives for my daughter to cut out the designs she drew last night on four pumpkins I'd bought her. So glad she volunteered to do the pumpkins because I really wasn't much in the mood for designing them this year and besides, she did an awesome job! Anyway, while running the errand I stopped at our  Kemptville Tim Hortons and was pleasantly surprised to be greeted by a skeleton, a ballerina and a Hawaiian who served me my coffee but my mind was too busy thinking about visiting "House Of Lazarus", my favourite thrift shop in Mountain so I didn't stop to take their picture even though I had brought my camera along and I thought I would take their picture later on my way back home from House.

But by the time I arrived at House I realized for the second time that morning a golden opportunity had once again presented itself to me.
The gals at the House were all dressed up and already celebrating Halloween and since I am such a terrible photographer when I'm out in public, like it takes me forever to focus and click the shutter button, even when it's on auto so I had to ask Ashley to help out and take their pic, thanks Ashley : )

So here is some of the gang from my favourite Thrift Shop in Mountain…..

From back left ~ Clare the Medieval Barmaid, Pauline the Witch Doctor, Krystine the Witch ( purrfect witch's ensemble from head to toe and I adore her black velvet hooded Victorian cape which by the way she bought at House )
At front Pauline with the her cute devilish smile, and Pat  the scarecrow.
As you can see they are a Happy Group of Trick or Treaters only they somehow missed my house tonight…..only a dozen trick or treaters so far…wow not like before,
used run out of stuff by this time ; )

Thanks Krystine for the candy apples and treats.
p.s. If another one of those lovely Victorian capes comes in, hold onto it for me….please ; )
Luv to dress up as a witch one year since my son thinks I'm one already…..long story…read "about "

~^..^~ A Midnight Chat m^._.^m

A-Haunting I Will Go

~ Somewhere into the dark night Dirt has vanished; I'm without doubt upon his return he will have some sort of gifting curiosity for me : )

So I decided to change a few things up a bit with this painting, for starters, I changed the moon again.
I think the fellow is quite more suited to this scenery; quite, still and engulfed in a starlit night.

As many of you have the pleasure of a friendly critter for your constant companion, when the time comes for their parting of this world, we humans try very hard to hold onto whatever comforts us and reminds us of our dear departed who without boundaries, loved us dearly and was our dear best friend .

It's been sometime now since we lost our dear fat house cat Elliott ( named after Prime Minister Elliott Trudeau) and to keep him near to us always my daughter M drew digitally his image as an angel.

Elly 2001 ~ 2008 All he ever wanted was Love and Affection but he gave his always.

Poor thing never cringed at M's antics…she loved to dress him up and treat him as her very own live furry baby.

And when she took this pic we laughed for days….grandma wolf?…. : ) a little tag from a flickr fan.

Of course I couldn't resist the chance of incorporating him into some of my work and so I invited him into "A-Haunting we Will Go " a landscape created in photoshop with a photograph I had taken of the haunted village, hand drawn illustrations of Ellie Cat Angels by M and an ceramic haunted tree i made when I was expecting my son. I adore this Halloween landscape because it has substance and soul and many heart felt memories.

"A~ Haunting We Will Go "

And because of this image I decided this time to illustrate Elliott in this Magical Halloween Evening, inspired totally by my daughter's drawings of Elliott.

~^..^~ A Midnight Chat  m^._.^m

So here you have Elliott the ghost kitty cat having a friendly chat with Charlotte.
I still have a few things to tweak and during the painting I lost some of the delicate webs, but better equipped for later paintings for I'm quite sure there will be many Charlotte's webs, kitty cats, dogs, owls ,some crows ……too many critters to list : )

I would like to make prints of this painting when I done but not sure how to go about it.
As you can see there is a  glare , not the best photograph.I will try to take a better pic once it's completed.

I wasn't going to participate in PPF because I wanted to devote the time to my daughter who is turning 20 today and since she likes the show "Walking Dead" and zombie movies my husband thought she would like to go see the Annual Ottawa Zombie walk ( never seen it since it's inception) and also her dad leaves tomorrow for work. So needless to say I wouldn't have the opportunity to visit the folks on Paint Party Friday till Sunday evening….sorry : ( …..For the rest of you try to pay them a visit.

Hope you enjoy the post ; )

Oh , almost forgot M ….Happy 20th ~^..^~ m^._.^m
