Old Love ~ Paint Party Friday ~ week #50

Inside this Bell Tower in Gananoque resides a quaint antique shop called "Old Love"

Last week I returned to an Old Love and to a little gem of a shop called "Old Love".

Somehow I knew this Old Love wouldn't leave me alone, and neither would I.

Last weekend my hubby took me on a mini surprise getaway to Gananoque; a place which I had visited earlier in the Fall with my daughter and husband.

I had then discovered this gorgeous quaint antique shop filled to the brim of Old Lovelies and had fallin in love with a vintage cement owl. The shop was having a sale and I had already done enough damage to our bank account with Christmas shopping and so I left with only it's vision imprinted in my mind.....and heart; I suppose it became an Old Love as well as the shop and their beautiful town of Gananoque .

Of course the opportunity presented it self once more when I returned last Friday to my "Old Love" and found that the treasured owl was still there , waiting for me. Like the shop owner said: "It's got your name written on it", and once again contemplating and stepping out for dinner, I had to really justify a good reason to purchase it........a souvenir of our little mini holiday......purrrfect ~^..^~.

So I returned to "Old Love" and bought my Old Owl Love, on sale with even a better discount the owner grasiously offered me this time around.

And so this week for Paint Party Friday I would like to share a few of my "Old Loves" with you....Old Owls and a very "Old Lovely" , a painting of violets that I am presently working on creating Charlotte's Old Love, her childhood home "Violet Wood".

The Importance of Being ... a Love Letter To Me and To You and Paint Party Friday Week 49

Dashing out the door, hubby is taking me to Gananoque for a tiny getaway, see the lovely town and beautiful art done by the area's artists so I'll come visit everyone throughout the weekend on my return.

Graphic design is another medium I'm truly in love with. As you can see on my two websites I have done my banners, sold banners for Etsy and blogger and continue to make them only lately I've been preoccupied with paintings and book. I have used Dreamweaver and Photoshop although I do have so , so much more to learn. If any of you want to try your hand at it try Polevore to get a taste ,where I first was smitten by the Graphic bug or Gimp, a free program which is good.

I'll leave you with some samples of my Graphic Digital work and my latest Conk Fairy door.

When I get a moment to play on here I'll add a little info for each of the the pics before hubby gets upset and leaves me behind...haha ; ) Enjoy and hope this might give you a little inspiration...until later have fun browsing my work and everyone at Paint Party Friday.

Make a Wish .....

You might say this is a Love Letter to me and maybe even to you .

Something I read a very, very long time ago in Oscar Wilde's play " The Importance of being Earnest"

sparked a flame in my heart. I never thought of it in this light before now but in fact it truly reflects who I am or correctly spoken who I sincerely am.

Sometime ago, around the time I turned fifty I suddenly was taken aback by mid life's hold. I was awaken to possibilities I never thought possible, never knew existed , never knew I had.

Always a dreamer at heart, always the one to take notice the little things others did not and I quickly or should I say much later in my life realized that I too had something to share of my own.

I was able to create art and I could even write down in words what I felt and most everyone understood them ; ) Far from a good grammarian, still what I wrote pleased me and surprisingly pleased others as well.

Suddenly, I was Earnest Worthing, happily creating art in my tiny web abode using numerous aliases when signing off or making a mark on my work. These aliases were brought on by the necessity of keeping my true identity a secret but later that all changed.

When the world turned to the www, so did I.

I totally harnessed the internet and became completely enamoured by the infinite world library it held within it's one portal....this became my new tv and virtual library; what better way to learn than from the comfort of your own home......It had it all!

Now a days there is just so much on the net that one either has to be very selective or if your'e anything like me; constantly consuming with your eyes and hears , keeping virtual files to hold all the required informational materials seems to be the answer, only with age, that can be somewhat of a challenge; but hey, working that old brain might just keep it sharp enough for those later golden years : )

I discovered so many mediums in art and so many sources of free knowledge.

Always a collector of the past, now if I couldn't actually own it materially, I could easily keep it as an image of it on file; over night another window to the World of the present opened for me. Soon, most things -stuff was filed away in my very own virtual library without the reality of hording the mess.

This really worked well for me and without warning, all this stuff became my muse, my inspiration to create. I no longer had the desire of owning but more a desire to retain their imagery either for art, writing or both. It became my new found love affair of my heart. Of course my weekly jaunts to church sales, yard sales and thrift stores didn't stop, probably increased to my family's horror ; )

Undoubtedly, the web continued to evolve and so did many of the free on-line sources. Now people took notice of the business possibilities that art might create with people wanting to learn some form of art medium and so free instructions became e-books or online classes for a designated fee. I even took a few myself like others I had taken from a brick and mortar shop in the past.

Later, videos and blogs offering free tutorials took root and with a following of readers some kind of residual revenue was generated. In time, I too was bitten by the art bug and opened an Etsy shop. The income produced from my sales would back my continual art expeditions , unfortunately most of the bill was footed by no other than my poor dear hubby ....thanks sweetie ~ ^..^~

These trivial art journeys of mine weren't the necessities of sustainability but rather in keeping a healthy and happy mind. I suppose in retrospect a little necessity for keeping my sanity thru the tumultuous health, school and job changes that occurred in the last 6 1/2 years in our family. Art truly is a healer of sorts. It has really helped me more than I thought it would have.

In those early days of the internet I was taking an unfamiliar road....the possibilities it held, I never imagined in my wildest dreams.'' " Two roads diverged in a wood and I - I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference ". Robert Frost resonated much of what is true in life and what happened to me the day I discovered the light at the end of the unknown road I had travelled in the Wood....a Creative World Opened it's doors!

I read once a quote by Robert Frost " A person will sometimes divide his life to the development of one part of his body- the WishBone"

Yes, I think in the past four odd years , I've done just that. Maybe a little silly of me or a whole lot but I don't care for I no longer worry about the negative talk, it's just that , trivial and unimportant talk which no good comes of it. So I try to ignore it and carry on with what truly makes me happiest and that is creating art and writing down my thoughts while still living alas my blog posts.

I no longer try to hide my true identity because really I've always been Annabelle (hubby's nickname for me), Anna and Nana....the girl with her far away dreams.... and maybe, just maybe that one dream she keeps on her pillow may one day become true.

So I now leave you to ponder on this small journey of one such old gal named Annabelle from The Wood Beyond the World and her Pastoral Dreams. Hope this helps some of you "envision the best of your life"....we all have something to share.

A new year and a new batch of art dreamed up many moons ago.

Recently the local library in North Gower asked me if I'd be interested in showing my art work and doing their artist of the month, of course I obliged happily. Too shy to show my picture next to my artwork that my daughter M took.... still my work and name went out there; a very good thing.

It's been some time now since I last participated in Paint Party Friday but here I am now. For many personal health reasons my muse and energy wasn't there for many months but hopefully I'm back on track, I better be, because now I have another artist of the month this coming October 2012 and that's when my book will most definitely be done....wish me luck!

The main work of art I am so very happy to show case this week is my painting for my storybook I'm working on.

Done on wood panel board, wood burned, and painted with ink and acrylics.

I'm still not sure of the Witch's name although the title "Cassienadognamedboo" is my Etsy shop's name which hopefully I wouldn't tire of too soon : )

The Blue's Cure

Hope you are enjoying the music down memory lane. Always a perfect Blue's Cure.... at least it works for me. I'll be returning shortly with many pieces of art work I have been working on in the past few months. Music and Art are always my constant companions when battling the blues... : )

Hopefully they will give me the incentive to carry forward with what I had previously wanted to do in the month of October. A party with a few very special original prizes to give away...... ; )

War had many casualties and among them were the animals that served the forces or were owned by the families that left the war torn villages behind in seeking refuge. Soldiers found some solace in the company of orphaned pets such as dogs and cats , even our famous John McCrae had a war pet , a dog named Bonneau.

And did you know that a Lt. Harry Colebourn from Winnipeg had a bear called Winnie; yes the same bear that inspired the story for A.A. Milne's Winnie - the - Pooh.You can read about it here : WINNIE

Doing just that , dreaming up art work for Paint Part Friday, art work for my Halloween Blog Party this coming month of October and everything-else in between during our home renovations.

I really wanted to be a part of this week's PAINT PARTY FRIDAY so I thought I share with you a gorgeous vintage painting I bought some time ago for my daughter Emma.

ISLE OF GOLDEN DREAMS

She has always dreamed of travelling abroad, especially to Hawaii, Australia and New Zealand and most recently Ireland. When I discovered this print I knew it was very old but after researching it on line I found out that it was done during the thirties ; a little older than I had thought.

If any of you have more information on this print I would love to hear about it.

So this painting is for all us Dreamers and Painters who dream of enchanting magical places and are truly inspired by the many artists of before and of now.

Impressions of Life ~ WIP ~ Paint Party Friday Week 28

Here is an image that I extracted by doing a charcoal rubbing of a relief surface feature belonging to.......You Decide : )

Can you see something?

Yes, it's a face.....

A simple way to create gorgeous artwork is by simply rubbing a charcoal pencil on paper of which has been positioned over the chosen design. Usually when the right materials are used what should happen when you are rubbing the charcoal pencil over the image is that the charcoal will only pick up " the protrusions and edges; depressions will remain un-pigmented since the pliable paper moves away from the rendering materials" but since I did a quick rubbing of this image I just used what I had on hand.

I discovered that the hard charcoal pencil worked best as the soft and medium pencils seemed to not work as well.

If any of you have some pointers on this technique I would luv to receive any information that may be of some help to me in continuing this work.

So for now, I leave you with the impressions, imprints and patterns of some secret object I've tried to capture on paper ; it is a part of my WIP for Paint Party Friday as well as an item that I will be creating for the Halloween Blog Party on October 8th and will be part of my give away gifts.

The little cherub's face is what I rubbed.

It's amazing how many relief items I have lying around the house....I am one that really loves to collect objects with some kind of base relief and so now they have even more of a desirable reason for their collection.

Some of my Treasure finds find a nook to sit in and beautifully embellish our home and other Treasures are used in my art work. Now you know why I have such a passion for thrifting....always very inspiring for me and affordable, the magic word : )

" Still Life " Paint Party Friday Week 27th

The hearth's terracotta tiles bask in the glow of the crackling fire....cold brisk nights have arrived.

Pussycat and dog curled up beside me as I read my new book, couldn't ask for more for this is probably one of their favourite times to enjoy with the coming of Fall.

Silence is golden , literally, for the glow of the setting sun hits the living-room windows and casts it's warmth and shadows on the newly painted white walls of the room. Suddenly the silence breaks, an owl's hooting is over heard the popping hot ambers of the fire.

With Fall and Halloween fast approaching I was inspired to do this wood-burning / painting of an owl sitting on a branch of a very, very old tree, half living half fallen , looking out into the slowly disappearing warm setting sun.

The burl wood piece I bought at a thrift store which had been painted on previously of which I sanded off the image.

After examining the wood I decided it looked so much like a tree from the back side and that it would accommodate perfectly the limbs and roots of a tree. Not only that, but it also reminded me of how a tree in nature, sometimes in it's splendid remnants of decaying grandeur tells a story of a storm, disease or simply old age embracing it's life.

Even though a part of this tree's life has departed a living part remains and flourishes.....Life is eternal?

Love Your Pet ~ Paint Party Friday Week 26th

In the Latter part of the summer months we were busily renovating, juggling all the little orbs of life that it threw at us and basically eliminating much of our treasures free time which one relishes to enjoy, especially in the warm days of summer. Fortunately there was some time allotted for reading and watching a few films at night and of course I took in a few flicks of Jimmy Stewart's.

I have always adored Jimmy Stewart and aside from Clint Eastwood being my favourite actor Jimmy was right there beside him only that I could relate to Mr. Stewart on a more normal everyday way; just really didn't know why. He was liked so much so even President Truman thought so when he said "If Bess and I has a son, we'd want him to be just like Jimmy Stewart". As usual, like most of us, I wandered down a path that in someway had connected with me and I began reading about Jimmy Stewart.Not surprisingly I discovered why I loved him so.Not only was he an incredible actor but it turns out he was quite a guy off screen.A gentleman who was "gracious and warm to both strangers and those who were barely familiar to him" for he always was in good humour especially so when out walking his dog Beau.Mr. Stewart always had a smile and hello according to Craig who lived around the corner from him.

The more I read about him the more I fell head over heels on Jimmy Stewart all over again. And then I came across a clip of a Late Night Show appearance he did with Johnny Carson and spoke about his dog named "Beau", I was touched by his deep appreciation of his love for his pet. This was just another trait of Mr. Stewart that I could relate to not to mention he had also written a poem for his beloved dog named Beau. Myself and my family know very well what he spoke about in his poem and I quickly ordered his book from the library and had fun reading his poetry once again enjoying the poem he wrote for his pet.

I mentioned a while back on Paint Party Friday I was painting some characters for a children's book I was writing and although it is a very huge task for me for I am neither a writer or artist I do know I am lucky to realize that I possess some tools to achieving my goal,

one being a very important, f not the key element to my success....."You can anything you want , if you want it desperately enough ". I'm not sure who wrote the quote although I remember reading a quote of Jim Carrey's saying something similar but essentially conveying same message and I have to agree that the desire has to be tremendous of which I know I truly own. Sadly, during our renovations we lost our beloved pet Bandit (Our vampire love bird ). I wouldn't go into the details of his death for it will be in my book but what I can say is how much his passing was a mirror image of a human's departure from this earth.

He never came to me when I would call

Unless I had a tennis ball,

Or he felt like it,

They created a bit of a stir.

But every once in a while, he would stop in his tracks

And with a frown on his face look around.

It was just to make sure that the Old One was there

And would follow him where he was bound.

We are early-to-bedders at our house–

I guess I’m the first to retire.

And as I’d leave the room he’d look at me

And get up from his place by the fire.

He knew where the tennis balls were upstairs,

And I’d give him one for a while.

He would push it under the bed with his nose

And I’d fish it out with a smile.

And before very long

He’d tire of the ball

And be asleep in his corner

In no time at all.

And there were nights when I’d feel him

Climb upon our bed

And lie between us,

And I’d pat his head.

And there were nights when I’d feel this stareAnd I’d wake up and he’d be sitting there

And I reach out my hand and stroke his hair.

Completely forgot about PPF ; been busy with the house and getting ready for the move.

So I thought better than nothing and missing out on the party that I share with you all a digital design I did last year for Halloween. I really miss working in this medium; especially incorporating actual paintings of mine with collaged images and then photoshop them together, truly a great art form. Love It!!!

"Adalian ~ The Ghost CAt " PAINT PARTY FRIDAY

It has been quite a while since I last participated in Paint Party Friday and my last submission was a "Patch of Blue"; a night landscape of a crescent moon with a straggly tree on a knoll.

I tried to place a sleeping critter beneath it but along the way, while we were off to Manitoba the painting changed direction and Adalian appeared; must have had something to do with the locality of where we took comfort for the few days we were there.

PineWood Lodge in the WhiteShell Provincial Park was a most satisfying escape and I would recommend it whole heartedly to anyone who wishes to find a secluded place for some tranquility and relaxation. Renting a cottage on the gorgeous serene Dorthy Lake with the occasional family of geese visiting does wonders for the mind and body and I suppose this is how Adalian came to be; in any case I am very content with the end result.

Meet Adalian the ghost cat, my third instalment of characters for the little children's book I'm writing.

My reason for the lengthy absence from blog land.....we are moving! Will explain at a later date.

What Treasures do You Hunt for???

A Florentine art work of a miniature book on a green velvet mat beautifully framed in a most lovely gilded gold picture frame.

The one on the left is Hand of Man by Andrea Del Sarto

and the one to your right is Head of Woman by Leonardo Da Vinci

Treasures to Me......Much of what I collect is to use in my art work especially old vintage jewellery
and the old frames for spiders and webs; although some of these portraits and landscapes will be purely for admiring and inspiring.

A lovely collection of vintage art and some not so very old like the girl in the wood miniature print on canvas "The Serenity of Solitude" by Cliff Sanderson printed in Italy. Unfortunately the canvas is a bit too big for the lovely gilded gold bird frame that I photographed it in. The silver paste heart I think is a scarf pin but I'm not so sure....any thoughts?

My Eye was Fooled

At first glance this photograph of an old farm house in an elaborate frame evokes a feeling of a by- gone era that survived many years, yet on a closer look the truth unfolds and exposes the reproduction.
I will be using this picture for another spider and web....it will be a great new home for Aunt Nancy.

A diamond paper weight from Winners bought at a yard sale, an amethyst from a thrift store, and very old bottles found at a fundraiser for kid's camp....... Loving the aqua blue bottle.

Another Fool the Eye...Satin Glass or Velvet Glass

This glass will fool you every time if viewed out of the light....It will look black in colour,

but once it is placed in the light the true colour will be revealed....the beautiful colour purple.

Next time I remember I will post some glass in the sunlight.

Madonna on a Blue Velvet Mat

The clear bottle has Paris and a bouquet of roses embossed in the glass. I may do a sculpture with this one but not a shell, something different.

Spider Jewels

This vintage brooch will become Aunt Nancy the Spider ...Lots of pretty crystals , a tole rose brooch and gorgeous pearls. I'll be busy creating much with this lot!

I can already visualize Aunt Nancy the Spider on that Old Farm House Photograph.....Come to think of it, I have much to complete and continue visiting PPF posts....

I have always wanted this beautiful romantic Nymph and whimsical crocheted miniature umbrella.
The Nymph I found a while ago and this umbrella a few weeks ago. The black kitty-cat vase was found in Bishops Mills. The lady who was having the sale is a member of the Red Hat Society and it just so happened that she had a box full of vintage hats and one of them was a tiny red velvet hat she apparently decided earlier on before the start of the sale that she wasn't going to sell it but rather wear it herself; a great decision on her part for it really and truly looked lovely on her , not anything like Princess Beatrice's Royal wedding hat....wow, I hated that hat; anyway, back to the kitty I found. It just seemed to be waiting for me for I walked by it a few times and didn't notice what it was since it was face down in the grass by the sales table but on my last walk through I decided to pick it up and discovered it was a heavy kitty cat vase and since it had a chipped ear the lovely Red Hat Society gal gave it to me for free. I now use it for my tiny paint brushes and pussy cat purrfectly charms my table while holding my paint brushes ~^..^~ .... little things make me smile!

I did find a white hat with velvet forget-me-nots in the box but forgot to take a picture of it and I also forgot to take a picture of two framed art pieces , one an embroidery of an Airedale and the other of a terrier with a cute and sentimental poem written beside him....... Next show and tell {: )

A Beautiful Treasure Find !

A Little Black Purse to match my Little Black Dress that doesn't fit any more .... {: (

Well , Im guilty of eating too many sweets, carrot cake with cream cheese icing and butter tarts....need to stop and get back on track!
Luckily this purse is perfect for holding lots of silver and some treats but they wouldn't be sharing the space this time....need all the money I can get to go hunting for Treasures in Pinawa, Manitoba come Monday. I'll be gone for five days and on my return Friday I will be heading out later in the evening to " Hey Day" a fabulous Treasure Sale run by the Kemptville Hospital Auxiliary....Great place to find just that perfect Gem!

So I wouldn't be checking in on PPF Posts till the following day on Saturday although I hope to have something done by then to post for week13...my lucky #....I better have something!

Dancing in a Fairy's Ring Paint Party Friday Week 12

A little late in posting this but I had a few errands to run before my daughter and I accompany hubby on his trip to Winnipeg next week. It will be M's first time on an airplane. Of course hubby got stop overs so she could experience the take offs and landings....my worse part of flying, I guess he forgot.

I wanted to stay behind and let my son go but it didn't work out, so this time around it will just be the girls while hubby goes to work for the week; hopefully we will find plenty to do while we're there :)

So I didn't get a chance to finish "A Patch of Blue"...kind of stuck on what I wanted to put in that patch, I thought I did last week but then I changed my mind after looking at it for some time.The good news is I have finally figured it out but didn't have enough time to implement it so instead of missing this week's Paint Party Friday I elected to show case a few of M's illustrations. I also threw in there a little Artist Conk that I played around with a few weeks ago when I ran out of large Conks.....how sad ): ....Actually it could pass off as an aceo, after all it is miniature measuring approximately 2" across x 1 1/2 inches in height x 1 1/2 inches in depth...not the size of an actual aceo but otherwise similar in it's small canvas space.

So here are the three illustrations M did......years ago.....maybe I might entice her to bring them along on the trip for her to paint.

The Lilly of the Valley...Return of Happiness

" This was one of my prayers: for a parcel of land not so very large, which should have a garden and a spring of ever-flowing water near the house, and a bit of woodland as well as these. " ~ Horace

Like Horace the Roman poet I too long for the same , only I may be a touch more demanding.

My garden of Dreams lies out in the open air , somewhere between an ocean and a wood, secluded in a pastoral rural landscape far from the maddening crowd that is steadily coming my way. Since the arrival of Spring I've been awakened by the sweet scent of the lilly I found near my door ; It summons my hidden affairs of the heart knowing quite well that I'll never escape from the want of the remote pastoral landscape that I lovingly long for.

Don't get me wrong for I do have a house and a yard, roughly a 1/2 acre which of course I'm very lucky to own but it isn't the garden I dream of...for many reasons....and it will never be, although someday it will be for the next occupant of this home. Soon we will be looking for a secluded place far from the city in a beautiful remote area where I can dream and create to my heart's content ....there my garden will grow.

Until then, these are a few of the products of which makes one Happy, makes us Happy...makes me Happy....The Return of Happiness......

Always keep a keen eye on those country drives, you never know what will greet you around the bend....

Happy Chance meeting these whimsical purple coneflowers-daisies growing up along a weathered wall of a barn.These lovelies happily make a good substitute to the real mccoy; especially great with Ottawa's water ban in place.....No Water Needed! Discovered on route to Merrickville one Saturday morning.

So HAPPY in finding this lovely Black Velvet petunia at Richmond Nursery.

Happy to see these lovelies ( Miniature Iris ) return each year more beautiful than before and so easy to care for.... my only compliant....too short lived.

Another Happy Meet...Petunias were my grandma's ( on my dad's side) favourite. I hated these flowers when I was young, never could understand why so many gardeners loved them...now I know....ease , beauty , variety, their scent and attraction to wildlife.

"A PATCH OF BLUE" ~ PAINT PARTY FRIDAY WEEK 11

I'll begin by sending out my apologies to everyone for not visiting last Friday's submissions. Unfortunately matters in the family have become more serious and a strain therefore I was obligated to set aside my art and deal with the pressing situation and by Wednesday night I was able to get a break.

I sat down and watched "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" with M and painted ......for therapy; needless to say, not enough time to complete it and messed up the little pooch I had painted. So for now this is a WIP and hopefully by this time next week there should be a little critter in the landscape. Again, I'm posting this painting this morning and then I'm off with more errands to run for the day. Will be visiting later this evening and throughout the weekend. .... most definitely!

Out of the complete weekend and week I was able to get in a Saturday morning jaunt to the Annual Bishop's Mills Community garage sale and this is the Treasure I found!!!!!!!

Meet " Ranger the Therapy Cat "....Isn't he a handsome fellow? His owner was kind enough to let me photograph him and Ranger was quite patient in letting me take ample photos in making sure I captured his best assets...I think I did!

Ranger who happens to be a Maine Coon Cat ; one of my favourite breed of cats , seems to adore his stroller, even my kids didn't stay in theirs so contently....I see why he is such a lovely soul for therapy!

And this has to be my favourite! Wow, seriously need to learn my camera....just luv when some pics turn out so good...I feel I'm improving with my photo skills.....although I still don't know how the buttons work....haha!

A drive in the country with a camera on hand just in case and hunting for lost treasures works wonders for me, great therapy. Discovering Ranger was a welcome surprise and even better I was lucky enough to capture the moment because I wasn't too lazy to bring the camera along.

What is good Therapy?

#1 Time spent with family, human and furry or feathered or whatever

#2 Driving in the country and meeting interesting folks

#3 Enjoying a healthy outdoor snack

#4 A Camera for capturing Treasures beyond our immediate reach

#5 Enjoying all the elements of Spring....Life

.....These are just a few of the things that make me happy....the secret to a well lived life.

"The Woods are Lovely Dark and Deep"...... and I'm afraid a Little Too Spooky for Me!

Last week Ronda from Roban asked if I would take a few pics of the Artist Conk next time I would be out and about in the wood collecting some specimens for my art. Well, Since it's been raining forever and ever now the idea of taking a hike on the trails of the local forests seems to be a far away dream. Not only was there the initial fear of confronting bears and fishers but now another few obstacles have popped up; the trails I usually frequent suddenly have morphed into tiny canals reminding me of my Venetian family roots, only not as pleasant for the visual beauty and serenity of the walk for undoubtedly they will be mischievously tempered with by none other then the nasty annoying pests themselves, the little vampire beasts .....yes....mosquitos.

And as I write this post, just outside my door, they are hovering over the sides and top of the frame looking for any tiny opening they can squeeze through, waiting to take their first juicy bite of the season! So, I have opted to wait for a while before I venture into the Wild Wood for the time being and force myself to work on a regular canvas for the following week's PPF. So this Artist Conk painting is it for the time being. I kind of like it . I will miss the wood burning. I have come accustomed to enjoying the mushroomy smell of the conk.

A Church Sale and a Lesson Learned

Well, every time I go Hunting for Treasures there is ultimately a story to tell.....A while back , hubby and daughter accompanied me to a community sale in Merrickville and while I was totally submersed in finding my Treasures hubby and daughter were finding their little piece of vanity fair observing the bargain hunters; some totally oblivious to their surroundings;such was a lady blissfully happy with her Treasure finds, unknowing to her immediate calamitous predicament.

This is where the first garage sale poem was born....." The Spider and the Shed " or " Spider's Moving Day " , one of my hubby's notorious funny quaky, quirky poems.

I would have never guessed in a million years that he possessed this poetic talent if it were not for these funny occurrences the two keenly observed within the radius of the common market I visited that day and was only made aware of this gift he possessed upon our return back home.

Ahhh, aren't they sweet angels....or are they ????

The famous shed where hubby and daughter witnessed the Spider's Moving Day....Lucky spider never anticipated getting a free mover that day and the unsuspecting Treasure Hunter had a good day herself, hubby and daughter found a way to find fun without costing them a cent and I got more than I had bargained for ; a keeper poem to remember the lovely day the family had at the Annual Merrickville Community Garage Sale!

These poems are meant to be taken lightly and no real names were used to protect the guilty....haha!!!! All in good fun and like my daughter simply puts it "Boredom of the Jedi"....that's another story, her own. So here is the one that started it all, followed by the one he just wrote today . Hopefully I'll have another for next weekends Garage and Church Sales. So here you are.....Hope you like them.

The Spider and the Shed

Out at yard sales on a rainy day

In the entrance to a shed

We watched as a spider dandled down

Looking to be fed

We stood outside in the pouring rain

Just me and Emma Peel

She looked my way and said to me

I’m not a spider meal

It was raining hard, we were getting wet

There were treasures inside for sure

I would check for bargains once inside

But only after her

Then suddenly without a word

We stood and did not care

As the woman that had just walked out

Had the spider in her hair

The way was clear, it was alright now

We could find our deals inside

We could have told the lady who cleared the way

But to hell with foolish pride

She knew that she was on her own

At this mornings church sale my husband and daughter decided to take a break but there was no need for them to be present to hear about my disappointment in missing out on some Treasures.....nothing lost, actually much more was gained from the experience...... a funny poem and a lesson learned......"don't fuss and fiddle with tiny jewellery bags , just horde them in your stash , pay and move on to the next treasure chest....haha...I'm afraid I'm a little too giving to take the whole loot , I like to share and give others some fun in the hunt as well! So here is Stan's version of what transpired at an early church sale in the country. Enjoy!!!

Church Sale Pig Lady

Entered the church sale

Like time and again

Spotted some jewelry

And suddenly when

A pig lady appeared

That followed no rules

Just like a fool

Gathered up everything

Looked like a witch

Hoarded all the jewelry

I tried to grab something

If you like a good church sale

Paint Party Friday Week 9 ~ " Past Curfew "

Not sure what is going on this week , maybe blogger issues I don't think Kristin and Eva cancelled the party, anyway I'll go ahead and post; hopefully it isn't .

Friday the 13th............Weeps once again is alone in the Dark

WIP.....Just finished " Weeps " yesterday and when I tried to post him this morning blogger was down......Hmmmm...... anything to do with it being Friday the 13th? I for one keep the number 13 as a lucky charm but probably not for all so it seems.........

Step #1 ~ Harvest Conk
Step #2 ~ Dry the Shelf Mushroom for a couple of months, but not required
Step #3 ~ Gesso prep
Step #4 ~ Sketch design, again not required if you can draw...hehe...not like me
Step #5 ~ Wood burn using wood burning tool...again not required
Step #6 ~ Paint, again not required
Step #7 ~ Seal with shellac if desired

This artist Conk doesn't sit well so once I complete "Weeps" I will be making a base for the Shelf Mushroom art

Sir Eldrick Sim ~ The Whimsical Spider ~ Hush Sweet Charlotte

Sir Eldrick Sim ~ The Whimsical Spider .........Sim sure has lovely eyes, don't you think?

I have a small collection of antique vintage jewels I collected since I was a teenager and a few recent acquisitions from estate and church sales. They aren't the easiest to acquire for it seems everybody has the similar ailment I possess that of an incurable addiction and affection for all things sparkly and very, very old.And even though these out of time pieces with their lovely worn and tattered patina usually come with missing stones their charm is never lost and somehow make them more endearing to our heart.

I present to you Sir Eldrick Sim, Sim for short though he is far from it with those dandy long legs of his...hehe! Sir Sim is my most recent Spider creation....Oooak.

An antique Aquamarine vintage brooch melded with a vintage clear rhinestone brooch make up the alluring physique of this long legged arachnid . I sculpted his very long legs from heavy gauge copper wire and then added a finishing touch of antique patina to give him that old world look of a well travelled seasoned gentleman Spider , perhaps a renaissance gentle arachnid man. A welcome companion in any household who adores a bit of whimsy, a fairytale or two and the story of Charlotte's Web for a life filled with magic and a love for all God's creatures great and small, creepy and scary, and all fun to observe and adore.

Sir Sim adores climbing high along castle walls, especially those constructed of ancient crystal fossils..... a very complimentary background for having his picture taken.

On sunny days you'll find Sir Sim sunbathing in the bird bath, happens to be his fav spot surrounded by all the ancient crystal fossils.

Another day at the Bath....never enough of these days....too beautiful to miss.
